The Canvas

A new experiment.
What would happen in the process?
Something unexpected.

I tore a photo of an abstract painting into irregular shaped pieces and glued them on a series of empty canvases. One fragment per canvas.
Slowly I painted around the fragments, expanding colours and forms until the white surface completely disappeared.
There was a feeling of loss, because the canvas was now completely obscured. I let the painting dry. My fingers touched the piece in the picture, got hold and then carefully removed it.

There you are, blanc canvas. Unchanged. Pristine. My Hero! (Debbie Parkins)
